I have just uploaded installation packages of Linux-libre 2.6.29.1 that you can find here. They should install and run fine on Debian Lenny, Ubuntu Hardy/Intrepid and gNewSense deltah.
The Linux-libre Project purges Linux releases from non-free binary blobs. It also just started guaranteeing users’ freedom by not loading external binary-only firmware that was possible in previous releases.
You can find out how to build a custom kernel here.

what .config file do you use for debian? same gnewsense?
you can find the .config inside the linux-image*.deb which is basically a compressed file.
and yes, it’s the same config for all distros since config defines how the kernel was built.
thx a lot
I have a question: which version of ‘gcc’ did you use? 4.2 or 4.3 ?
‘Cause I’ve got a problem installing Nvidia driver on 2.6.29 kernel taken from here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
There is a warning about different versions of ‘gcc’, hence some modules are rejected by the kernel (I think so because I cannot get vga=795 verbose mode to work during booting, just a black screen). Seems to me that its a problem with vesafb/fbcon, but I tried to add them and updated initramfs… all in vain.
Any suggestions?
i’m using gcc 4.3.2 that comes with debian lenny.
however, i’m neither experienced nor interested in the proprietary nvidia driver, so i won’t be much help to you.
I have download one of precompiled packages of the linux-libre kernel on aligunduz.org that you said that it was compiled for ath5 driver. I installed on my eee PC 1000 HA using gNewSense operating system. But, I don’t know how to configure the wireless connection on my eee PC laptop. Could you please give me a short tutorial about now to configure the wireless connection on my eee PC here laptop? Thank you in advance.
